In Memory

"Somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
where creeks sing on and tall trees grow,
some paradise where horses go.
For by the love that guides my pen,
I know great horses live again."

Miss Mattie DillonMiss Mattie Dillon

Miss Mattie Dillon (aka Mattie)

(Matt Dillon Dun It X Miss Clone Freckles)
2007 - 2009
This section is dedicated to Mattie's owners, Don and Inez Scott, who exhibited the highest standards of horse stewardship as they fought by Mattie's side for her health and finally made the most painful of decision on her behalf!

The Horse with the Soulful Eye...

Miss Mattie Dillon was born with beauty, athleticism and the promise made by her World Class pedigree to become a remarkable reiner. Purchased by Don and Inez Scott of Brooklyn, Iowa as their young granddaughter's dream horse--the reining horse that would be her loyal partner as they journeyed together to the top of the performance world.

We will never forget this beautiful young filly with the kindest eye and gentlest of natures. In our hearts and mind, we can see her spinning and sliding just like her magnificent sire.

Our hearts were broken when we learned that Mattie had suffered a catastrophic injury during the Iowa floods of 2008. Together with her caring owners, she fought long and hard to heal and become the horse a little girl dreamed of. But, the injuries were just too severe.

Mattie, we know there must be a reining arena in heaven...and we know all eyes are on you!
When we finally make it to heaven, we will listen for your hoofbeats.

Run with the wind, sweet Mattie!
Miss Mattie Dillon

Yesterday's Dream
In today's world, a boy dreams of the fastest car.  In yesterday's world, he
dreamed of an elegant, swift steed.  Hobby was Yesterday's Dream.  A
beautiful Standardbred, Hobby was the loyal mount who delivered young Don
Collins to school each day in grand style, returned to school  a solitary
figure at day's end to carry his young partner, then was the inevitable
champion of the great boyhood races of yesterday down Emerald Road.

Slush FundSparkle N Fancy

Slush Fund and Sparkle N Fancy (aka Fancy)

Grandsire & Granddaughter

Slush Fund 3/1/1979 - 4/14/2008

Slush Fund  owned and shown by George and Sue Evans; later owned and shown by Butch Gilliam

Slush Fund  possessed two essential traits for a performance champion--guts and the drive never to quit.  And, he did just that--he never did quit!  Born on the famous 6666 Ranch , he carried the blood of horses as important to cowboy legend as the cowboys themselves.   A local legend himself in the cow cutting circle, he qualified for the AQHA World Show in Open Cutting, earned an NCHA COA and was an NCHA money earner of considerable money back in the early 80's.    His performance career was put behind him for several year until he was purchased by Butch Gilliam of Overbrook, Kansas.    Detecting an ability that was well alive in Slush Fund, Butch paired him with cutting trainer Alan Wamser who rode Slush Fund to the World FQHR Open Championship in 1999 when Slush Fund was nearly 20 years old.    Those of us who knew Slush Fund, will always love  and admire him.  We will always remember him as a champion with guts and drive!

Fancy 4/18/2008

Fancy owned and loved by Moon Slush and Ray and Jeanne Mason, Donegal Ranch Quarter Horses

(Self Shine X Moon Slush by Slush Fund)

An exquisite baby in her physical beauty, Fancy will always be remembered and loved not for her guts and drive that spanned three decades, but for her tough fight for life that lasted three hours.
